When a teacher finishes with you, you celebrate,
When a guru finishes with you, life celebrates.

Mayadhar Raut was a Gotipua dancer in his childhood. In later years he moved to Kalakshetra and trained under the legendary figure Smt. Rukamini Devi Arundale. He played a major role in giving Odissi its classical ‘shastra‘ based status. He introduced Mudra Vinyoga in 1955.

Guru Mayadhar Raut has been honoured with – Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by the President of India. Later he received the Tagore Akademi Ratna on commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore by the Sangeet Natak Akademy.

Ranjana Gauhar had the honour of learning Odissi dance under his guidance from 1977 to 1987 in Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, New Delhi.

Guru Aloka Panikar as a teacher is extremely committed and dedicated. Her understanding of the Odissi movement was deep and she had a precision and complete involvement in her classes. It is no surprise that even today she is regarded as a wonderful teacher and is loved by all her students.
